How Long Does a Concrete Driveway Take to Install?

How Long Does a Concrete Driveway Take to Install?

A common question before starting a driveway project: how long will it take, and when can I use it? Here's a realistic look at the timeline for a concrete driveway in the Portland area.

Demolition and Removal (1 Day)

If we're replacing an old driveway, the first step is breaking out and hauling away the existing concrete. For a typical residential driveway this is usually a single day.

Base Prep and Forming (1–2 Days)

Next we excavate to the right depth, install and compact a crushed-rock base, set the forms to grade, and place reinforcement. This stage is where a lasting driveway is made — and it's worth doing carefully.

The Pour (1 Day)

Pouring, finishing, and jointing the driveway typically happens in a single day. The crew places the concrete, tools the finish you chose, and cuts control joints. For decorative finishes, coloring and stamping happen now too.

Curing (Several Days)

This is the part you can't rush. Concrete needs a day or two before foot traffic, about seven days before you park passenger vehicles, and longer for heavy loads. Curing conditions — especially in cooler, wetter weather — affect the timing, and we'll give you exact guidance.

Weather in Portland

Rain and cold can shift the schedule. We plan pours around the forecast and take steps to protect fresh concrete, which sometimes means moving a day for the sake of a better result.

The Takeaway

Most residential driveways are a few working days of on-site work plus curing time. We'll give you a clear schedule with your estimate. Contact Oregon Concrete Company to get started.
